Bloom with Renewed Spirit — Lamp Base Flowers

The Story

The lamp bases came first. The artist found four at an architectural salvage — heavy brass, scrolled leaves, the kind of detail you don't see in new hardware. They had once been the feet of a lamp. She knew immediately that they could transform into the foundation for multifaceted glass flowers.

Petal by petal, each cut from scrap glass, the flower grew inward towards a warm amber center. The curling brass leaves of the bracket became the flower‘s foliage. (Note: This glass was hand chosen by the artist from the Ragland Park scrap yard at Kokomo Opalescent Glass.)

The lotus is the artist's signature — the flower that rises from murky water into light, transformed. These pieces are that symbol made literal: beauty emerging from something discarded, something industrial, something most people wouldn't think to save.

The lamp base flower projects are very personal to the artist. They are the very first design that the she really connected with and felt like - this is the type of art that she wanted to keep creating. A one of a kind find, reclaimed lamp feet became much more, a journey down the pathway of glass sculpture work with architectural/reclaimed elements. This art style combines the artist’s longtime love of discovering old, found items with stained glass work.
