The Artist's Story
About the Artist:
Reclaimed Lotus was established as the next step in a creative journey, decades in the making. Drawing from a multifaceted background that includes performing arts, teaching, manufacturing, and project management; the artist brings a unique eye for potential — an ability to see what something could become, not just what it is.
It took years for Lotus to recognize herself as an artist rather than someone simply doing something she enjoyed. That shift changed everything. Today, her work is driven by a belief that the objects we overlook — the worn, the discarded, the left behind — hold stories worth telling. Her goal is to create pieces that evoke something in the viewer, so that the story of the piece continues long after it leaves her hands.
Lotus works within a vibrant maker community, the Columbus Propeller, that she credits as essential to her process. She collaborates, teaches, and draws daily inspiration from the people around her. That community — its skills, its conversations, its encouragement, and most importantly the individuals — is woven into every piece she creates.
Artist's Statement:
Our stories matter, and will continue to long after we are gone.
Every piece I create carries a multitude of stories — a story of inspiration, a story of discovery and learning, a story of creation and reinvention, stories of collaboration, and the stories we will never fully know: the previous lives of the materials themselves. Those unknown stories are the ones that move me most.
I have always been drawn to old unique things. Hinges with patinas and scars. Rough weathered woods. Objects worn smooth by decades of hands. I don't care what wounds they carry — the marks are essential as they tell the story, and the story is the beauty. My goal is to keep the layers and enhance, not take away. I ask myself: What can I add to help others see what I see? How can I bring the beauty that's already present into a form that people can hold, keep, and live with? This ideal is similar to the Japanese tradition of kintsugi — repairing broken objects in a way that makes the fractures part of the beauty rather than hiding them. The past is part of the piece and is why the item is what it is today. It could not rise anew without its history.
For me, the creation of art is very personal, emotional, and intense. The process of making a piece is part of my own journey of self-discovery and healing. Connection is essential: The maker community around me fuels so many levels of my inspiration — their skills, their conversations, their friendships, their belief in me. There’s so much of each of them in the art I have made. It is an unnerving and joyful connection to experience as I cannot create this art without them.
