The artist has been fascinated by dragons since childhood. Smaug, Falkor, Haku, Toothless, Drogon, Ore — she loves them all, whether they’re menacing or endearing. Building a set of bookends felt like the best way to celebrate them and the literature from whence they came.

These bookends are made of glass from KOG, as well as some scrap glass. The bases were fashioned from woodshop remnants found at the artist’s local makerspace.

The amazing thing about a makerspace is that the glasswork and woodworking can be completed all at one location. Lotus loves to learn more about woodworking, metal work, 3d printing, laser engraving, and more from her colleagues at the Propeller. Projects that incorporate use of multiple shops and tooling are some of her favorites. New learning experiences add to the artist’s journey and to the story of the piece.
